PSA: When They Tell you what they’re going to do, Believe them.

AKA Project 2025

I’m sure that by now most of you have heard, perhaps only vaguely, of Project 2025, or more precisely the Presidential Transitional Project. According to their website:

It is not enough for conservatives to win elections. If we are going to rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left, we need both a governing agenda and the right people in place, ready to carry this agenda out on Day One of the next conservative Administration.

This is the goal of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. The project will build on four pillars that will, collectively, pave the way for an effective conservative Administration.

Okay, not thrilled about the “rescue the country from the grip of the radical left.” But I can appreciate a snarky comment and honestly, I was a little relieved to know that there are people out there thinking about what the next conservative government will look like other than “keep President Trump out of jail and away from sharks.”

They even have a playbook: 2025 Mandate for Leadership, The Conservative Promise. Like FDR’s New Deal or Gingrich’s Contract with America, the 2025 Mandate for Leadship is an agenda for what they want to accomplish in the first 180 days of the next conservative (aka Trump) presidency.

First of all, y’all it is 920 pages long and that is A LOT to unpack. But I believe it can be summed up in one word: terrifying.

Terrifying if you believe in The Constitution. The whole, Constitution–not just the 2nd Amendment.

Terrifying if you believe in the Rule of Law.

Terrifying if you believe in body autonomy.

Terrifying if you are a woman.

Terrifying if you have daughters, granddaughters, nieces, sisters, mothers, aunts, any women in your life whom you love.

Terrifying if you don’t follow evangelical christian “values.”

Terrifying if you are not white.

Terrifying if you love someone other than whom these conservatives think you should love.

Terrifying if you identify as something other than these conservatives think you should be.

Terrifying if you’re retired and receive Social Security benefits.

Terrifying if you believe our climate is changing–and not for the better.

This is not hyperbole. Here are some actual excerpts from this 920-page document, which is available online for everyone to read:

  • The Secretary must ensure that all HHS programs and activities are rooted in a deep respect for innocent human life from day one [conception] until natural death: Abortion and euthanasia are not health care.
  • [T]hey must rein in the Environmental Protection Agency, which declared backyard streams navigable waterways that then fall under its authority. They must rein in the Internal Revenue Service, including its 87,000 new employees hired to pick through every detail of what Americans make and how they spend their money. They must rein in agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which the Biden Administration weaponized to attempt to force COVID-19 vaccine mandates on 84 million Americans through their workplaces.
  • Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society.
  • [F]amily policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families.
  • It is essential that the next conservative Administration place a high priority on
    reforming the DOJ and its culture to align the department with its core purposes and advance the national interest. Critically, this must include the FBI. At a practical level, not reforming the Department of Justice will also guarantee the failure of that conservative Administration’s agenda in countless other ways.
  • In order to fully wind down the Department of Education, Congress must pass and the President must sign into law a Department of Education Reorganization Act (or Liquidating Authority Act) to direct the executive branch on how to devolve the agency as a stand-alone Cabinet-level department.

This is just a sampling of the language this Mandate uses:

  • liquidating the Department of Education
  • reigning in the EPA, IRS, OSHA, Medicare, Social Security
  • repealing laws that allow us to love and marry whom we want
  • life beginning at conception
  • women being denied life-saving procedures
  • and perhaps the scariest one of all: reforming the DOJ and FBI to align with these conservative values

Aligning the Department of Justice with these extremist conservative values?!? Are you picking up what these conservatives are throwing down?

I keep using “these conservatives” because I know that there are conservatives out there that do not ascribe to these extreme ideals.

And this is an appeal to them: I want you to have space to have a voice. But you need to actually use your voice and stop standing on the sidelines and hoping the Democrats and Independents will save you.

I’m sorry, traditionalist Republicans, but the party you believe in is dead. It has been dying since 2016 when you nominated Donald Trump as your guy. It continued dying every time you placated Trump and he moved you away from traditional conservative values to conspiracy-fueled, extremist views where hate speech and double standards are the norm. The final nail in the coffin of the Party of Lincoln will be giving your Presidential nomination to a convicted felon.

And what can you do about it? You can not vote for him! You can choose your country over your party. Is it scary? Absolutely. But I can guarantee you it is a lot less scary than the ideals put forth in the 2025 Mandate for Leadership. Read this mandate. I’m fairly certain you won’t need to read the entire 920-page document to get the jist of the things that are coming if you continue to do nothing.

I get that you are not fans of President Biden, but if Trump becomes president again and this mandate is implemented in the full, extreme version in which it is written, the country that you claim to love will no longer exist. And then what? What, as the Lincoln Project asks in their latest ad, will you tell your kids?
