Sunday Comics: Beach Body

4

I know I have been talking quite a bit about beaches and guess what?!?!?  I have found the perfect way to get EVERYONE–that’s right, EVERYONE–a beach body this summer!

And the best part is that it doesn’t require a crazy ass diet that turns you into a raging Cookie Monster by the end of day 1 or consuming an entire grove of grapefruit until it’s permanently on your “never eat again list” or a need to run 937 miles on the treadmill everyday.

Because I think we can all agree that running 937 miles a day really cuts into cheese eating and wine/beer/margarita drinking time.

It’s amazingly genius because it’s so simple–you don’t need any fancy, over-priced equipment you’re going to stop using after 4 days.  You can start today–and substitutions like “pool” or “lake” instead of “beach” are perfectly a-okay!  You just need sunscreen and some tasty beverages to stay hydrated.  A swimsuit and a towel, if you want to get in the water, are also good.  And if you want to be really fancy you can bring snacks and a big umbrella.

Happy Summer-ing!

Aloha!

My Cup Runneth Over for Thirsty Thursday

1

In trying to find pictures for Throwback Thursday, I realized I have a lot of pictures of adult beverages (that is said with pride, by the way!). As such, I’ve decided that rather than share pictures of me with bad 80s hair and glasses that legitimately covered half my face, I could easily share glasses of a much tastier kind. So without further ado, I present to you Thirsty Thursday!

Of course, we all had some amazing drinks while in Hawaii, however, I realized that I have already spoken about a number of them already–so I thought I would repost them for you again on this Thirsty Thursday.

Thirsty Thursday #16

4

In trying to find pictures for Throwback Thursday, I realized I have a lot of pictures of adult beverages (that is said with pride, by the way). As such, I’ve decided that rather than share pictures of me with bad 80s hair and glasses that legitimately covered half my face, I could easily share glasses of a much tastier kind. So without further ado, I present to you Thirsty Thursday, all the way from Hawaii (for some strange reason I have a lot of pictures from Hawaii that qualify for Thirsty Thursdays…)!!

This little baby is a coconut mojito.  It was the first drink I had in Hawaii.  Blended, not muddled and oh-so-tasty!   While some at the table said the aftertaste was a bit reminiscent of catnip, I thought the creaminess of the coconut with the lingering of mint gave it an extra layer of delicious texture.  Paired with a sinking sun and a beachside table at Duke’s in Waikiki, I was in heaven 🙂

PS–after some pressing and a lot harassment, it was clarified that it tasted LIKE catnip smells, not that anyone at the table partakes in catnip…at least that he/she is willing to admit!

BYOBM

1

I feel like I have quite a few Boozy Brunch posts.  If so, this tops them all!

I luuuuuuurve me a good bloody mary, but it needs to be the right blend of spice and kick and delicious! Enter in Southernmost Beach Cafe with their Build Your Own Bloody Mary!

That’s right build your own!

BUILD. YOUR. OWN!  I don’t think ya’ll are grasping how amazing this is.  Apparently, they used to have a Bloody Mary cart that traveled from table to table.  I say BYOBM is a much better option.  Sure, table side bloody marys are cool and have a whole lot of flair.  But in my humble opinion, when it comes to booze fast is much better than flair and why should I have to wait for some dilettante to make up his/her mind while (s)he is hogging the bloody mary cart at his/her table?  It’s like getting stuck behind the newbie at your favorite coffee shop–it takes all of your concerted effort (and before coffee, mind you) not to shove them aside while yelling “if you don’t know, go to the back of line!”

La la laaaa…perhaps you see why BYOBM is the better option for me.  So how do you build your own?  Well, you pick your vodka, how spicy you want your tomato juice, your garnishes, and your rim.

EVERYONE STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND PAY ATTENTION:  Old Bay Seasoning.  Just do it.  Get the Old Bay rim.  You’ll thank yourself.  You’ll thank me.  You’ll thank everyone who ever even thought of such a wonderful accompaniment. It’s even better than (I can’t believe I’m actually saying this–and no, I’m not sick, delusional, or drunk) the Bacon rim.  That’s right.  There I said it.  Old Bay Seasoning.

So, you pick all your stuff and magically this appears:

Or I guess other boozy brunch drinks of your choice.  I mean, I’m not going to name names **cough cough*SissyandJames*cough cough** but some at our table chose not to participate in BYOBM. Fine. Whatever.  They’re missing out.  Especially on the wonderfulness of Old Bay!  This bloody mary was sublime–nearly as good as Aunt Kathy’s (and that’s saying something!).  Although–I’m just sayin’–that if Aunt Kathy aka The Bloody Mary Queen added an Old Bay rim to her bloody marys the gap would be a lot wider (hint, hint).

Oh wait a minute before you go: let’s not forget the other (but less important part of brunch): the food!  Which of course, was very tasty.  They had several versions of eggs benedict from which to choose, but once I read the words “asparagus and cilantro hollandaise,” I just knew that i had to have the Key West eggs benedict.  They did NOT disappoint.  I mean, how can you go wrong with eggs and asparagus and cilantro hollandaise?  In a word: you can’t (okay, that’s two words, but still).

All the other items that were ordered looked good.  James had the breakfast tacos, which looked and smelled amazing.

I’m not sure what Sissy and TK had–I know one of them (or perhaps both) had the corned beef hash, but honestly I had my BYOBM and my Key West eggs benedict, I was a happy, happy, happy girl and off in my own little boozy brunch world!

Although a bit of warning, if you don’t like birds this is NOT the place for you, as it’s beachside and an open air restaurant, so there were pigeons everywhere.  Of course, I say just build yourself a few more bloody marys and you won’t care!

Birthdays Galore!

2

Yesterday started my birthday week. By that, I don’t mean it’s the week of my birthday, but rather: starting yesterday, I have at least one birthday a day until the end of the month (and yes, I know it’s technically 8 days, but channel your inner Beatles and work with me here people!). The only day in this week missing a birthday is the 29th. Anyone out there with a birthday on the 29th? My OCD is wanting the day to be allotted to a birthday! Of course, I have 2 birthdays the day before and 2 birthdays the day after, so I don’t reeeeeeeeally neeeed another birthday…

What birthday week has reminded me is that I’ve been slacking in the post dept! Remember last year’s birthday week? It was a bit crazy–fun, mind you–but crazy. Here they are again, if you wanna relive the magic! Hopefully they are properly linked to magically take you to the original post when you click on it. If not, yell at the technician (that’s me, btw, but alas I’m currently not taking complaints!).

I think birthdays are special–they are the one day a year that’s all about celebrating you. Unless, of course, you are Desire’, who also celebrates her half birthday. Her birthday is in February. February, in case you are unaware, is NOT conducive to sitting outside in NYC, drinking margaritas, eating Mexican food, and not getting frostbite–so we celebrate her birthday in August, when we can do all those things sans the frostbite!

Regardless of when you celebrate, do it in style: like we’ve done in the pic below! It is the pie we ordered for my boss’s birthday: sour cream and apple–The Little Pie Company’s best seller! And for good reason: while it sounds slightly weird, the flavors all meld beautifully together for a heavenly slice of pie…especially when enjoyed a la mode 🙂
